Workworkworkworkwork. That's what I've been up to. And class. x.x No way am I getting all A's this semester. It's B city for me, but I'm not letting it get me down because 17 hours + work = leeway.

Alek and I hit this huge... THING when I expressed that I was probably missing out on some college experiences because of our long distance relationship. Just saying it to say it. I didn't want to do anything about it. But he took it as I wanted to open our relationship again and it was just one big shit storm and we almost broke up again. Lame. So things were tense until I went up to see him the weekend of November 6th and now everything's better. Good, in fact. Great, even. Yay talking.

Boys I tutor are silly and hormonal.

One girl I was tutoring is a bitch because she thinks that if she's getting a bad grade, it's my fault. Uhmmm no. Not my fault that she's lazy and never showed up to sessions. But whatever.

My social calendar has picked up dramatically since my birthday (21!). Bars and stuff, woo. But I now have a bittersweet relationship with alcohol.

Last night was awesome. Meteors and hookah and a UFO and almost getting eaten by coyotes. :D Fantastic. But now I think I have a cold from being in 38 degree weather for nearly four hours. Boo. And I'm still getting over an upper respiratory infection. UGH. Too much sickness.

This week should be pretty slow (thank goodness) until the weekend. I'm going to Corpus to see my Dad. :) Then Alek is coming into town, hopefully on Sunday after I get off work. Then Cypress on Wednesday. Woo!

Most amazing night

Last night after work, I went to a bar finally. :D Caleigh and I decided on Cool Beans, which turned out to be an awesome choice - $2 Long Island Ice Tea and a friggin' delicious burgers? Hell to the yes. Also she bought me two shots, one of which was called an Acid Cookie and it tasted like Christmas, no joke.

Smoked a cigarette because I was feeling crazy tipsy, and we went to Natalie's (hookah bar). Smoked some blueberry shisha - good call. Also we decided on a slice of cheese cake. Oddly enough, the blueberry brought out the cheesecake's taste. Soooo good.

And after that! We decided to go Geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com). Found three caches. :D And Caleigh almost locked her keys in her truck, but it turned out that when she got out of the truck, they fell to the ground and we didn't hear them. So her keys were laying outside the driver-side door. xD Good thing it was 1am and like no one was around.

Went home after that. Talked to Alek for a bit, then finished ANTM and went to bed.

Uhm?

I really should update more.

Work's been super. I work for the school, tutoring athletes, if you didn't know. :D Most of the guys are flirty, so it's actually pretty hilarious. Some of the things that come out of their mouths... xD

In other news, I think I'm doing alright in my classes. Looking like mostly B's right now, so that's kinda lame. I made an awesome poster for my computer class today. I'd post it, but I forgot to convert it to a jpeg or pdf from InDesign. >.< Working on it though.

Boy is fine. I have plane tickets to go see him on November 6th. :)

Oh, I'm 21 now. Still haven't been to a bar. Got asked if I wanted a virgin one when I ordered a drink. -.- She also explained what a virgin version is. I hate looking so young.

Roo is fabulous. She has figured out how to open cabinets and then trap herself inside. I have baby proofing cabinet things, but you have to screw them to the cabinet doors and it makes my arms tired after a while. I only have two done, but they're the important ones - the cabinets under the sink that have all of the cleaners and junk in them.

The end.

Wow, so I realized that I haven't posted in a while... Oops.

Honestly, not much has happened. Alek drop himself and his RA Mike back to Houston after they finished finals, dropped Mike off in Sugarland, stopped in Cypress for a day, and then drove up to Denton. It was nice and it was shit and sad and awkward. And then nice again, I guess.

A week later, we drove down to Cypress. I hung out there and with him until he left for Poland. Then I hung out with Nick and Eric. Then the wisdom teeth fiasco (meds didn't really work as well as they should have, vomited them up so it didn't matter, chin was still numb two weeks later, etc.) and then family vacation to Cancun for six days.

Cancun was a lot of fun. Basically just chilled by the pool and the beach and drank with Mom and Dad. Got back and I was going to head back to Denton, but Mom told me that Aunt Sheryl (aunt from Corpus whom I never get to see) would be in town for a few days at the end of the week, so I stayed longer. Saw her, and it turned out that her whole family was coming up, so that was cool.

I left the following Monday. -TBC-

And that's about all that's happened. Came back to Denton this past Monday and I hung out with Matt and Dhriti and Wyatt yesterday, which was wonderful. I missed my friends here. :( I'm really doing nothing but chilling until the weekend of the 21st - Mom's coming up and we're going to paint the apartment and go shopping for clothes. I have job training (tutoring athletes for the school) on the 22nd for like two hours, I think it is. Alek gets back from his stay in Heidelburg, Germany (he's taking a German class at the university there) on the 26th and is going to stop by here on his way back to Terre Haute on the 27th. I think he said he'd like to stay for a few days, so that will be fantastic. Oh, and classes start on the 27th, of course. Strange, starting on a Thursday. Oh well.

So I've basically been doing absolutely nothing lately. I mean, excluding the interview (which went well!) and getting a refund for my unused plane ticket and such. I need to go jogging at least five days out of the week, and I have made no effort to do so yet. x.x I think I'll start tomorrow morning... Er, whenever I wake up. >.< Yeah, I've pretty much just watched shows online and lounged around all day. Granted, I do think I deserve a day or two of restful stuff, but I nevertheless feel the hint of sloth. Ick. Maybe tomorrow I'll jog and clean and maybe do some grocery shopping. Hmm.

And I need to stop staying up until 3am. This is killing my sleep cycle.

I think I need some sort of summer project to keep me waking up at a proper time and such. I really, really want to paint my walls... Maybe I'll look into that. Or planting stuff in pots for my patio. I miss having people I can just go on a walk with wherever.

This past weekend I had planned on flying up to Terre Haute to see Alek, since I'm done with school and it's the weekend before his dead week. Got my tickets and everything.

Woo!
Honestly, I haven't been doing much but school crap and traveling. Alek's been really irritable lately, so that sucks. Unnecessary fights. Bleh!

I think I might move back to Houston after I graduate. There are a lot of PR firms downtown, so we'll see. Mom seems pretty excited by that prospect. :P

Went to Cypress this past weekend. Kristi made me go tanning with her. First time in a tanning bed! It was scary at first, because I got kind of claustrophobic. But then it turned on and it was so warm... I fell asleep. xD And I was only in it for six minutes! Whatevz, it was a good mini nap.

Katie and I were watching A Knight's Tale at one point, and I asked her if she wanted to go to Ren Fest either this year or next. She got super excited and actually asked if she could dress up. :D That made me happy.

Uhm, guess that's about it. Had a psychology test today. I think I did well. I don't know how my classes are looking as far as grades go. I mean, I'm not worried at all, but I just wish I knew where I'm standing. I want all A's, damn it! But I guess I'll find out soon enough. Yay, last three weeks of school!

UGH.

I hate getting a case of the Mondays. :(
I drove to campus today and did meter parking. I needed to be on campus for two hours, so I whipped out my change purse and counted out dimes and quarters. Right when I inserted the last dime into the meter, it spazzed and then died. I mean "push the left and right buttons and NOTHING shows up on the meter" died. So I called the number on the meter and informed UNT parking that that meter was out. They said they'd look into it. Unfortunately, the little red flag never changed to a green one. So I am pretty positive that I will be greeted by a bright yellow parking ticket when I get back to my car. And I'll be out $20. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. D:

Recap

I really should update this more... And not just when I'm teary-eyed. :P

Today was kind of hectic a little. Yesterday, at the Writing Lab, I signed up to that the GSP Test (grammar, spelling, punctuation) so I can get the class code for this course I need to take for my major. Turns out, the test costs $35 to take. I went to campus early today I see if I could move my time slot to 11am (it was originally at 10:30am, during my Moral Issues class). Got the time moved and then whipped out my trusty debit card to pay for it. Turns out, they only accept checks or exact cash, neither of which did I have on me. I didn't have time to run back to the apartment to get my check book, so I asked if my time slot could be moved to after my classes (3pm). They okayed it.

Did the class thing. Actually talked to the girls behind me in Moral Issues. Usually I don't because they annoy the hell out of me. I skipped Developmental Psychology to study for my Public Relations test. Good thing too. I think I did pretty well on it. After I got out of PR, I caught the bus right as it arrived at the bus stop. But then the driver up and left to use the restroom, which would have been fine had he not lingered behind the bus when he got back, talking on his cell phone. -.- Time crunch! He finally got back on the bus and drove me the ten minutes it takes to get back to my apartment. I ran up and grabbed my check book and switched out my keys. Drove myself to campus and parked in metered parking.

Got to the Writing Lab at 2:15pm and took the test. Took around half an hour; that thing was so friggin' long. I waited around while the grader did her thing. Turns out, I did really x5 well. :) Yay.

Tomorrow I've got a Russian vocabulary quiz. We have to study nearly 80 words, and there are only going to be 15 on the quiz. Wtf? I was supposed to give my oral presentation tomorrow as well, but I got that moved to Tuesday, thank goodness.

Alek talked to his dad about coming up to see me for a few days during his Spring Break (next week). I was definitely thinking that he would be strongly opposed to the idea, but he actually said that he wasn't against it so long as Alek makes good grades. :D So that is super exciting.

I discovered that I have a loose window pane. Roo was up in her cat tree, investigating something behind the mount of the blinds. He placed both her front paws on the window to get a better angle, and the window creaked. I pushed lightly on the pane, and it moved. O.o Windows aren't supposed to do that... Could explain my leaky windows. I put in a maintenance request which should get taken care of tomorrow. So yay for possibly figuring out the problem... Even though it's supposed to storm tonight and I now have a slightly pushed out window pane. x.x And possibly more loose ones on the other windows.

Other than that, I've been fairly engrossed in schoolwork and rewatching Arrested Development and catching up on other shows. I watched 21 Grams, which is a really great movie that everyone should see. It's available for free (legally!) on hulu.com. I went to an academic adviser for the first time; mine is a godsend. I don't know what I did without her the last few semesters. Oh wait, yes I do - I managed to duplicate a class and take a few classes that I don't really need. However, taking those unnecessary classes has enabled me to possibly double minor. Psychology and social/political science :) So that's cool.

Also, I've been reading Sherlock Holmes. What I've read so far is quite good, all told from Watson's perspective, which I did not expect. He is far more than the addle-brained sidekick I once thought him to be.

Freak out week

  • Mar. 30th, 2009 at 12:24 PM
book
I have so much to memorize this week, it's laughable.

-memorize 87 vocabulary words for Russian for quiz on Tuesday (there are only 15 words on the quiz, wtf?)
-Public Relations exam on Wednesday (no review sheet, notes only... Luckily I haven't missed any class between the last test and this one, so I should have all of the notes.)
-Russian oral presentation (3 minutes long, COMPLETELY MEMORIZED, no notes whatsoever. But I think note cards for place-keeping are acceptable... I hope. x.x It's worth 5% of the final grade)

I haven't studied for any of this yet. Mehhh. I really hope I haven't screwed myself over here.
Next week I have a Developmental Psychology exam, and I have around 100 pages to read for it. However, our TA is awesome and gives us a really good review and review sheet. The professor is a joke.

Anyway, that's about all that's new with me. Sorry for the lack of coherent posts.

Almost there...

Two tests and a paper, and I'm home free. So close. D:
And I can't find the motivation to write the paper because it's for a freshman philosophy class, therefore super easy. The paper has to be one page, double spaced, about whether or not Confucianism is still relevant today. I could make a really good case out of how it is, but I have to basically write a damn AP open-ended question. Can't overwrite it. So I'll go with how it isn't relevant because there is less to say about that.

Main points:
-not big on laws or individual rights
-gender inequality
-resistance to modernization

But even that's too much. :( Ugh.

Well crud.

Summer job?

book
I applied to be a Parent Orientation Student Leader for UNT for over the summer. $700 a month, and it's only Monday through Friday. And not every day in between. :)

I hope I get it. I would definitely get me doing something besides slobbing around in my apartment and I would be making a fair amount of money giving tours of the campus and helping with workshops. Also I'm pretty sure it would boost my self-esteem and give me better oral communication skills. :D

On another note, I got an e-mail from the lady who put the ad out for the secretarial job at the a children's rehabilitation center. The job description also included a little work with the kids (most Autistic kids and kids with ADD, which I have worked with before). It's out in Grapevine, about half an hour from here. But I am extremely self-conscious about my secretarial skills because I haven't done that kind of work in five years. Because of that, I am not going to call her for an interview. :(

Stuffy/runny nose.

Explosive argument. Boom.

Said some things that needed saying. Again. Though he doesn't remember hearing them the first time around. Talked about why we're in this relationship. Wondered if things would have been better had we broken up at the end of my senior year as was originally planned. We decided we'd both be worse off.

Things are alright now.
One good thing came of this needless fight - we understand each other better.

DELAYED AGAIN. Eric's family fails at remembering which cars they're supposed to take.

Going up with Mom in the morning fer sure though.

Adventure/Failure

book
Eric came over and we got both cars packed up, ready to go. We were driving along, der derder, when Eric calls me and says that we need to pull over because his engine is overheating.

Okay. So, we pull over off of James Muse Parkway (for those of you who know where that is) and sit. He pops open the hood and TONS OF STEAM comes flooding out. Scary. He figured it was something with the radiator. Sure enough, the overflow tank is bone dry. So we run out to find antifreeze in my car. Got some at Auto Zone and headed back. poured it in, Eric starts the truck, yay. So we decide to continue heading for Denton, but cautiously. One exit down, Eric's engine overheats again. We u-turn and see how long we can head back to Cypress before we really need to pull over.

Ended up on James Muse Parkway again. We wait a while for the engine to cool down. Eric tries to start it. It sputters and shakes. Badbadbad. So I called my dad; he said that he could head out to help us after he finishes up a few business things. We chill in my car. My cat is present for this whole thing, poor baby. We decide to try starting it again after about twenty minutes. It starts, yay.

I call Dad and tell him that we're heading back because we got it started. He says to pull over because Eric might end up burning up his engine (read: requires big bucks to fix if it happens). We pull over at a Shell off of FM 362. And wait. We see four Humvees. Kinda scary. Whenever I see Army peoplee, I think there's going to be something exploding somewhere. I dunno, I'm weird. Dad gets there and looks at the engine and junk. Puts more antifreeze in the radiator. Decides that there is a ton of stuff wrong with it (the check engine light has been on for over a year, apparently), and that we should head to the house.

We head out - Eric, Dad, and then me and Roo. Suddenly I lose them. Turns out, they pulled over again off of Binford. I just keep going. Get Subway and go home and unload Roo and her things and my bathroom stuff, because it was certain that we weren't leaving that day anymore. Eric and Dad get back.

Then there was a whole fiasco where I couldn't find my phone. Eric found it in my room. Finally, I ate my sandwich. Yumm.

Eric is taking his step dad's truck tomorrow and we're having another go at Denton in the morning. Hopefully we'll make it this time.

There and back again.

book
I'm heading back to Denton tomorrow around 11:30am. I have persuaded Eric to help me move stuff up with gas/food monies, so yay.

Also, I am going to have to figure out a way to fix my computer. It's got all kinds of nasty on it, and I just want to reformat/reinstall Windows, but Windows XP came preinstalled on my laptop and it failed to be accompanied by a Windows OS installation CD. So. I need to figure out how to reformat without that. Or borrow one from someone else, because I have the license key thing. Either that, or I'm pretty sure the laptop came with a recovery CD, which (I'm pretty sure) would restore everything to the way it was when it came from the factory. I hope. I just want a fresh start. D: Stupid Toshiba, not giving me an effing installation CD.

Anywho, that's my news. I'll be chillin' in Denton with my cat until class starts on the 20th. Woo. And job hunting. Blehh. I need to save up for a good laptop and possibly a trip up to Terre Haute (flying, of course) to see Alek. ^-^ Exciting.
